A beautiful, symmetrical smile is about more than just your teeth - your gums play a big role too! At Todorthodontics Smile Studio, we can use our state-of-the-art lasers to perform gingival recontouring to give your gums the smooth, uniform look you want.
What is gingival recontouring?
Gingival recontouring, also known as gum recontouring, is a type of cosmetic dentistry used to reshape uneven or excessive gum lines. If you have a “gummy smile,” or have areas where your gums are uneven, our laser treatment can make a swift and simple impact on your smile.
We can also use our lasers to treat receding gum lines from gum disease or aggressive brushing. With gingival recontouring, we can actually redistribute your gum tissue in an even fashion. This is not only aesthetically pleasing, it helps prevent bacteria growth and bone loss.
How does gingival recontouring work?
Our gingival recontouring treatment is a fast and easy procedure. If you have excess gum tissues, we will use our laser to remove the tissue without affecting the tooth underneath.
If you don’t have enough gum tissue, we can graft tissue from surrounding teeth, or even from the roof of your mouth!
Both treatments can be completed in just one office visit.
Does gum recontouring hurt?
You shouldn’t feel any discomfort during laser treatment, as we will numb the area with local anesthetic before we begin. You may experience some slight swelling and soreness following treatment, and you may need to keep a dressing on the area to keep it clean while healing.
Gum tissue heals very quickly, and your smile should be back to normal soon. If you need grafting for your procedure, you can expect a slightly longer healing time - around six weeks to heal completely.
